福井県越前市の、かつて五箇村と称され和紙の生産において1500年の歴史を背景に持ったこの土地に、私たちは拠点を置き、創作に重きを置いた活動をはじめる。その皮切りとして、まずこの産地として知られる土地を「近所」と呼ぶことにした。自分たちが身を置く土地のごく身近に存在する物事に焦点を当て、歴史や希少性など、一般的に測られやすい尺度だけでない、なるべく素直な独自の尺度をもってこの土地の価値を見出す。産地としてではなく、ご近所さんとしてこの地を捉えてゆくからこそ生まれる視点の深度と軽快さを大切にした創作の試みだ。閃きは、いつも近所にある。 In Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, once known as Gokamura, a village with a 1,500-year history of washi production, we will establish a base and begin activities focused on creation. As a starting point, we decided to call the area known for its production “neighborhood. We will focus on things that exist very close to the land where we are located, and find the value of this land not only in terms of history, scarcity, or other commonly measured criteria, but also in terms of our own unique scale, which is as honest as possible. This is an attempt to create a work that values the depth and lightness of perspective that comes from perceiving the land not as a production site, but as a neighborhood.
