Tansu remake
This tansu was created for the guest room “MIYSUMATA” at SUKU, a craft hotel where visitors can experience Echizen washi. An old, decaying tansu that had remained in the building before renovation was revived by covering it with Echizen washi and finishing it with layers of persimmon tannin, giving it a new expression. Different tones of persimmon tannin were applied one after another onto the uneven texture of the washi, allowing the absorption and coloration to occur intentionally at random. While using a traditional technique of strengthening washi by applying persimmon tannin, the piece was finished to develop, over time, a heavy presence reminiscent of rusted iron.
